WHERE IT ALL BEGAN
The roots of Notts Unity Casuals C.C. trace back to the 1930s, when the original Casuals Cricket Club was
established in the heart of Nottingham. In an era when cricket was the beating pulse of English summers, the
Casuals carved out a reputation that far exceeded their modest community origins.
The club had the rare distinction of playing home matches at Trent Bridge — one of the most iconic cricket
grounds in the world. It was here, on the same turf that hosted Test matches and county cricket, that the
Casuals developed players who went on to represent Nottinghamshire at county level and, in some cases,
earned international recognition.
For decades, the club was a cornerstone of Nottingham's cricketing community — a place where talent was
nurtured, friendships were forged, and the love of cricket was passed from one generation to the next.
Today, that heritage lives on through Notts Unity Casuals C.C. — a modern club built on the same
foundations of community, development, and belonging that defined the original Casuals nearly a century
ago.

WHY PROJECT UNITY MATTERS
Across Nottingham, young people face real challenges — youth disengagement, antisocial behaviour, knife
crime, and a shortage of safe spaces and positive role models. Cost and access barriers lock too many out
of organised sport entirely.
Project Unity was created to address this head-on. Through cricket, we provide structure, routine, and
mentorship. We build confidence, discipline, and direction. We create belonging through team identity, and
develop skills that transfer far beyond the boundary rope.

BRIAN WAKEFIELD SPORTS GROUND
Notts Unity Casuals C.C. plays at Brian Wakefield Sports Ground on Lenton Lane, Dunkirk, Nottingham. The
ground serves as the base for all senior and youth cricket, training sessions, and community events.
Through Project Unity's £50,000 investment plan, the club is transforming the facility into a
professional-standard ground — with pitch improvements, net upgrades, a modernised clubhouse, and
equipment to support the next decade of community cricket.
